How do I enable spell checking in my browser?

**Here you can learn how to enable the spell checker for your browser. **This will allow you to detect and correct spelling errors in the text field. The function is explained for Microsoft Edge, Firefox and Google Chrome.


Microsoft Edge:


  • Click on the menu in the browser. Those are the 3 dots in the upper right corner.
  • Click there on "Extensions". Here you can see which extensions are already installed.
  • To install the Spell Checker extension, click on "Get extensions for Microsoft Edge".
  • Search for "spell checker" at the top left of the box.
  • We recommend the LanguageTool extension. Now click on "Get".
  • A small window will appear. Click there on "Add extension".
  • It takes a few seconds until the extension is downloaded.
  • Now you agree that LanguageTool can check your texts. Now the extension is installed.
  • Under Extensions you can see if the spell checker is activated. There you can also deactivate it.
  • If you misspell a word in your text field, it will be displayed and you can correct it.




Firefox:


  • Click on the menu in the upper right corner of the browser and then on "Add-ons".
  • Search for "spell checker" in the box at the top. The LanguageTool extension is recommended.
  • Now click on "Add to Firefox".
  • A small window appears. Click there on "Add".
  • It takes a few seconds until the extension is downloaded.
  • Agree that LanguageTool can check your texts. Now the extension is installed.
  • In your add-ons management you can see if the spell checker is activated. There you can also deactivate it.
  • If you misspell a word in your text field, it will be shown to you and you can improve it. If you click on the word, you will see the alternatives.




Google Chrome:


  • Click on the menu in the upper right corner of the browser.
  • Click on "More tools" and "Extensions". Here you can see which extensions are already installed.
  • To get to the store, click on the menu in the top left corner.
  • At the bottom you will find the Chrome Web Store.
  • Here you can search for "spell checker" in the top left box.
  • There you will find the LanguageTool extension.
  • Now click "Add to Chrome".
  • A small window will appear. Click at "Add extension".
  • It takes a few seconds until the extension is downloaded.
  • Agree that LanguageTool is allowed to check your texts. Now the extension is installed.
  • Under Extensions you can see if the spell checker is activated. There you can also deactivate it.
  • If you misspell a word in your text field, it will be shown to you and you can correct it.
